![]() The recently released trailer (which you can view in full at the top of this page) shows the bird “sailing the winds” swooping between vanes, with the girl in tow. You indirectly control the bird, glancing at key focus points in the world such that the bird triggers key events in the landscape. What we do know is that the title is roughly 50% complete and is being built exclusively for Oculus VR hardware. In terms of what the game is actually about, little is known just yet. But MARE is all new and what’s more, it’s being build for virtual reality.Ĭoming to Oculus platforms some time next year, MARE follows the journey of a young girl and a mechanical bird as they traverse through a lost, mythical world. The bleached, softened lighting cast across a world filled with ancient ruins all towering over the protagonists’ tiny form. At first glance, there are glimpses of MARE which could fleetingly be mistaken for Ico. The Last Guardian is a Sony title developed by Team Ico.The game was first announced in February 2007 through a full-page advertisement in the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. It was shown publicly for the first time in a trailer at E3 2009. There’s a good reason for that too as the sole developer on the title, Rui Guerrero, was also part of Team Ico until he left part way through the group’s torturous development of the forthcoming PS4 title The Last Guardian. Here’s the game’s teaser trailer.Īnyone who has experienced the bewitching, desolate charms of Ico, a 2002 platform-puzzler for PlayStation 2 following a boy’s quest to escape captivity alongside his female companion, you’ll likely draw some similarities with a new title being developed for Oculus platforms called MARE. CG cinematic-style action trailer for The Last Guardian featuring Trico, the boy, and suits of armor. I do not know the boy or Trico, so I am not entirely invested.Īs we patiently wait for an official release date, I will try to hold onto to hope for The Last Guardian.MARE is a new adventure title from a former member of Team Ico, the studio responsible for the PlayStation classic Ico and the (very, very) long awaited The Last Guardian. Perhaps I did not feel submerged enough in the game’s atmosphere to really care for what was happening. I believe that once it is released, i’ll feel awful for ever being bored during the gameplay demonstration. Once again, I have every faith in this game. There has been so much press coverage, so many debates and buzz surrounding this game, that I almost feel as though it is too overhyped and that it must be truly amazing to win over everyone’s heart, which is a heavy burden for anyone to bear. Similar to Kingdom Hearts 3, I feel as though it has almost been too long and I am already feeling tired of it. After so many years wanting and needing to play this game, I felt as though I didn’t really care anymore. However, the demonstration at this year’s E3 was not enough for me. I do not doubt that the story behind the game will bring tears to my eyes and keep me satisfied for years to come, whenever it does come out. The Last Guardian is certainly an addition to a particular genre of games that are both rare and unique. I found that after a few minutes I was unamused by what was being shown to me. That is, I don’t feel completely enthralled with the demonstration that I saw. My personal opinion is one that is not shared by many. After the boy pushes down the shrine and he jumps onto Trico’s tail, the two climb atop a higher part of the temple, ending the demo. Why Trico responded that way, is unknown. The boy then leads Trico outside, through the temple. As the boy climbs atop a rafter across from Trico, he encounters a shrine which causes Trico to hiss as his eyes turn blood red. The young boy then climbs up into the rafters, throwing Trico barrels to eat. The boy climbs on his back and pulls them out one by one, relieving him with each roar of pain. What surprised no one however, is that only a release window was given with no official release date.Īt E3 2015, attendees were able to observe an extended gameplay trailer that included a more in-depth experience between our favorite, tattooed little boy and his bird/dog companion, Trico.Īt the beginning of the demonstration, the young boy and Trico are in a large temple, where the boy finds large wooden stakes pierced into Trico’s back. This year at E3 2015, Sony dropped a bomb on us all by showing footage of the highly anticipated game. Don’t worry, I will spare you the enormous introduction in regards to the legacy behind The Last Guardian, for we all know it by heart. ![]()
